Storage size guide

Storage is sold by cubic metres (m³) for household goods, or by pallet position for palletised stock. Use these as a starting point and we'll measure exactly during your quote.

Short-term vs long-term storage

Short-term storage (weeks to a few months) suits people between properties or doing a renovation. Long-term (6 months+) needs more careful packing and slightly different protection.

• Short-term — minimal wrapping, easy access, billed weekly
• Long-term — full wrap, climate-stable bay, billed monthly with discount
• Hybrid — store the bulk long-term, withdraw seasonal items monthly
• Settlement gap — we collect, store, redeliver on your new key day

What never to put in storage

• Perishable food — including unopened pantry items
• Liquids, paint, solvents, oils
• Gas bottles, fuel, fireworks, ammunition
• Damp or freshly-washed bedding (mould risk)
• Pot plants and anything living
• Irreplaceable documents (passports, original wills) — keep with you
• Cash, jewellery, fine art beyond your insurance limit — use a bank safe deposit

Packing & wrapping for storage

• Use uniform-sized boxes — easier to stack high
• Label boxes on the TOP and TWO SIDES with room and contents
• Wrap upholstery in heavy moving blankets, then plastic
• Disassemble bed frames, dining tables and wardrobes
• Bag screws and brackets, tape to the matching item
• Vacuum-bag bedding, doonas and out-of-season clothes
• Stand mattresses on their long edge in mattress bags
• Stack heavy boxes low, light boxes high
• Leave a centre aisle so you can reach the back

Climate-controlled vs standard

Most Melbourne household storage is fine in a standard warehouse bay — it stays dry and within normal temperature range year-round. Climate-controlled storage matters for a small set of items.

• Standard storage — furniture, white goods, household items, business stock
• Climate-controlled — fine art, antiques, wine, leather, musical instruments
• Document storage — archive cartons in racked positions, fire-protected

Insurance & liability

Goods in storage are typically NOT covered by your home contents insurance unless you've extended it. Warehouse storage terms carry limited carrier liability — for replacement-value cover, take out a goods-in-storage policy.

• Check whether your existing contents insurance extends to storage
• Photograph high-value items before they go into storage
• Quote a goods-in-storage policy for the storage term
• For business stock, declare value to your business insurer
• Keep an inventory list (we can supply a template)

Access & security

AMAG's warehouse is a working logistics facility, not a self-storage cage. That means scheduled access during business hours — usually with 24 hours' notice — but full handling on your behalf if you don't want to come in.

• Forklift loading and unloading included
• Scheduled access by appointment (1 business day notice)
• Pick & pack of stored items at your request
• Redelivery to your new address by our own trucks

Roughly $14/m³/week for household storage; from $5.50/pallet/week for palletised stock. Includes weekly handling and access by appointment.
